Animation gives our imagination wings to fly and turns our creative ideas into visible stories. On October 28, 1892, Charles-Emile Reynaud projected the first public animation, Pauvre Pierrot, paving the way for the animated entertainment world we know and love today to develop.
Did you know October 28th is International Animation Day? In honor of the first animated projected screening, the International Animated Film Association (ASIFA) declared the holiday on October 28, 2002, as the main global event to celebrate the art of animation. The holiday is celebrated on every continent with more than 50 observing countries and 1000 events every year! At Kdan Mobile, we decided to celebrate by asking some of our Animation Desk team about their favorite animations. Here’s what they had to say.

I like cartoons which are imaginative and creative. Cartoons like The Amazing World of Gumball, Dexter’s Laboratory, and Adventure Time are my favorite. Among all though, I think Courage the Cowardly Dog inspires me the most. I like its art style and character setting. I think people will conquer their fears and achieve remarkable things for the people they love, just like what Courage does for Molly.

I like most of the animated characters created by Studio Ghibli, but Totoro is the first one that comes to mind. I watched Totoro when I was little. The huge, furry creature left a very deep impression on me. He won my heart with that innocent smile and the kindness he showed to Satsuki and Mei, the sisters who just moved to this new town and whose mother is badly ill. People face pressure when they are in a totally new environment. Friendly company is something nice to have.

My favorite animation is One-Punch Man (ワンパンマン). I especially like the hero, Saitama. I like to see him beat down his competitors. Even though Saitama is a great fighting master, the ranking system does not reflect his true power. He needs to start his career from the very bottom, and his credits are often taken away by other heroes with a higher ranking. While he faces contempt and unfairness, Saitama never gives up on his dream of becoming a hero. His determined and resilient spirit inspires me.

I like amines about robots! Genki Bakuhatsu Ganbaruger (元気爆発ガンバルガー), Matchless Raijin-Oh (絶対無敵ライジンオー) and Madö King Granzört (魔動王グランゾート) just to name a few. My favorite robot character is Ryūjinmaru in Mashin Hero Wataru (魔神英雄伝ワタル).
I watched Mashin Hero Wataru every day when I was a kid. The lead character Wataru made a robot, Ryūjinmaru, out of clay in an art class. Wataru was later summoned by the mysterious dragon god. His clay robot became a real robot and together the two joined forces with others teams to save the world. I thought it’s was super cool! I haven’t been summoned by the dragon god yet, but I still have hope. Ryūjinmaru, please don’t forget me if you are looking for a pilot.

I like Putin in the cartoon series Usavich. Putin is a good-hearted and happy bunny. He is so kind that people and animals like to take advantage of him. When any situation goes awry, Putin uses his extraordinary talents and creativity to solve the problems. He always makes me laugh.
We hope you enjoyed getting to know some of our Animation Desk team and learning about their favorite animations.
